A Scenic InterludeAs a change from wildlife, I thought my next feature on the Tanzanian safari should be about scenery - the longer view. Photographically, there were some challenges to capturing landscapes, skies, and the like. Starting with sunset here are a couple of shots - the first a sunset at Oliver's Camp, Tarangire. People associate Africa with the Big Sky and beautiful sunsets and sunrises, but this was just about the only shot of any merit I managed at sunset. For the most part, our camps and lodges faced the wrong way or were within tree-enclosed areas. More importantly, dusk and dawn are very short periods a matter of 20 - 30 minutes if your are lucky. This is because northern Tanazania isonly a couple of degrees south of the Equator, so sunset is nigh on 6 pm (18.00 hrs) every day and sunrise nigh on 6 am (6.00) every day with those low angle high contrast light episode of very short duration.
