Infrared Sunset

Description

This image may be of interest to those who like sunsets, taken with my Canon 20D converted to 720nm infrared and fitted with a Pentax SuperTakumar 28mm lens, Av f8, Tv about 1/250 s, and AWB.

I have deliberately posterised the image to 16 levels, using the Gimp tool. As with visible light skies, the image shows curved banded gradations. The gradient appears to be an elliptical one. Posterisation is a simple way to show sky gradients, as seen in some of my other shots of sunsets. There is no reason to have supposed an IR shot would not show this effect, but it is nonetheless pleasing to see it. I have not carried out a full Web search to see if suchan image has been posted elsewhere, but perhaps this is a first.

ordinarily i would have "chucked" this because of the banding as being poor technique. scientifically that is another story. i wont be so hasty next time.
